Peacock feather inspired eyes

Bright bold colors are the look for this spring! I wrote an examiner article on 5 new spring looks to try and decided on the peacock feather inspired look since it looked the most fun. A nice change since winter had stuck to my usual neutral palette of colors.

I had done so much studying the week before and doing this look put some excitement back into my day. Good thing my heavy duty concealer covers my heavy eye bags from lack of sleep!

Makeup used for this look:

  1. Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer potion in Eden
  2. Coastal Scents 88 Color Eye Shadow Palette – lightest shade of nude as highlighter
  3. Urban Decay Eyeshadow in Ecstasy applied as base color over lid (in The Book of Shadows Vol. II)
  4. Urban Decay Eyeshadow in Rockstar blended into outer corners (in UD NYC palette)
  5. Urban Decay Eyeshadow in AC/DC in crease (in The Book of Shadows Vol. II)
  6. Urban Decay Eyeshadow in Haight in inner corners (in UD NYC palette)

I lined my eyes with Urban Decay’s 24/7 Glide on eyeliner which I love because it glides on so smoothly, and applied my usual Cover Girl Lash Blast Luxe in Black Royale.

Halloween Success

My nails for Halloween! The orange changes to black in the sunlight. I saw this  Del Sol color changing nail polish at a Walgreen’s in LA two weeks ago. I’m going back again in a few weeks to get MORE COLORS! I could really get used to this color changing nail polish.

black in the sun! chipped yes, but black in the sun.

Paint your nails in the name of Spring

Spring is such a great season – with the birds chirping and the flowers blooming, how does one not get inspired to smile and throw on a cute dress to enjoy the scenery. There’s just so much color outdoors you can’t ignore. The great outdoors during this time of the year can really serve as color inspiration for your nails. Let mother nature be your guide.

I couldn’t decide which  of the 5 colors I wanted to paint my nails the most so I decided I would paint them with every color. I didn’t stop there, I added paint drops of each color on a different colored nail. The more color the better!

Colors used:

Spa Ritutal Nail Laquer in Airhead

Sephora by OPI in Brainiac

Revlon nail Enamel in 917 Plum Seduction

Avon Nailwear in Lagoon

Maybelline Express Finish in 900 Go Go Green

Must Have Decorated Mirror Compacts

There is something about a pretty mirror compact that feels special. Maybe it’s the art, the style, or the feeling of knowing you’ve got an ‘extra’ ordinary mirror to check your reflection. Decorative mirror compacts can express your style, and makes for a great accessory as a gift or in your personal makeup bag. After looking at these I want to start a collection to compliment my personal style and different occasions. One for every day, one for the club, one for dates, another for special events because lets face it, every one needs a touch up so why not do it in style?

Nail Trend: Matte Nails

Unshiny, matte nails? Sounds strangely interesting. I found this beauty tip while reading the February issue of Glamour Magazine, and now I’m curious to see what it really looks like.

1. Start with base coat. “Mattes have a reputation for not lasting as long as regular polishes,” says Kimmie Kyees, Rhianna’s manicurist. Base coat helps polish stay put and prevents annoying yellow stains. I like to use a base coat anytime I paint my nails because I usually paint them colors that tend to stain like red or black.

2. Even it out. Matte tends to dry fast so do two thin coats of polish to fill in streaks – no need for topcoat. OPI also has a line of matte nail polishes. $8.50 at amazon.com)

3. Matte what you’ve got. You don’t have to ditch your favorite shiny colors to wear this trend: just get yourself a bottle of matte topcoat. Let your regular shade try, then apply one layer on top. Glamour recommends CND Super Matte Top Coat. ($8 bebeautiful.com)

4. Try the new french mani. A great monochromatic look Kyees recently created for Kim Kardashian: Do two matte black coats over the entire nail, then brush clear, shiny nail polish just along the tip.

ELLE – DIY Beauty: Makeup Looks From the Runway

As a I was web surfing I came across this neat article on Elle.com about an editor who usually wears a neutral look to work and decides to try 21 different runway looks to work for 21 days. My 3 favorite looks are the bright orange lipstick, two toned lips,  and blue lined eyes + red lips. You can check out the article here. The photos above are directly from the site.

The bright orange look is bold enough to make a statement but not dramatic enough to generate weird stares out of the corners of people’s eyes. Focusing on the lips and keeping the rest of the face relatively minimal is an easy way to change up your look without much difficulty.  The two toned lips is a really creative runway look. Red and black would we a cool combination! But it’s definitely not a look I wear on a date if you know what I mean.

What I really liked was Day 21 – blue lined eyes + red lips.  It wasn’t so much that I loved the look but because she decided to get out of her comfort zone and find a new look like she actually liked. I’m all about experimenting with different looks and not get stuck with the same look. It’s nice to play around with different colors to find what you’re into and ultimately know exactly what works  for you and what doesn’t. Experimenting with different looks also can help you find your signature look.
