Peacock feather inspired eyes

Bright bold colors are the look for this spring! I wrote an examiner article on 5 new spring looks to try and decided on the peacock feather inspired look since it looked the most fun. A nice change since winter had stuck to my usual neutral palette of colors.

I had done so much studying the week before and doing this look put some excitement back into my day. Good thing my heavy duty concealer covers my heavy eye bags from lack of sleep!

Makeup used for this look:

  1. Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer potion in Eden
  2. Coastal Scents 88 Color Eye Shadow Palette – lightest shade of nude as highlighter
  3. Urban Decay Eyeshadow in Ecstasy applied as base color over lid (in The Book of Shadows Vol. II)
  4. Urban Decay Eyeshadow in Rockstar blended into outer corners (in UD NYC palette)
  5. Urban Decay Eyeshadow in AC/DC in crease (in The Book of Shadows Vol. II)
  6. Urban Decay Eyeshadow in Haight in inner corners (in UD NYC palette)

I lined my eyes with Urban Decay’s 24/7 Glide on eyeliner which I love because it glides on so smoothly, and applied my usual Cover Girl Lash Blast Luxe in Black Royale.

Urban Decay Book of Shadows Vol. II

I got the Urban Decay Book of Shadows Vol. II as a Christmas gift this year. Someone obviously knows me really well; I can only speak of good things about this brand. I felt lucky to have gotten it as a gift knowing that it is no longer available in most Sephora stores or from UrbanDecay.com. I was thinking of buying it for myself back in November and now I’m glad I didn’t give into my guilty pleasures.

This is the first Urban Decay palette I own that includes their 24/7 Glide on Eye-Pencils, which I am very happy about. I have the Deluxe Shadow Box, the Eyeshadow Ammo Shadow Box and the Sustainable Shadow Box and I use them all, especially when I travel back and forth from LA to the San Francisco Bay Area.  They’re really convenient to throw in your bag when you know you’re going to have to do your makeup away from home because you’re not lugging around a train case filled with bulky single eyeshadows and eyeliners. Now I’m really glad since I have one less thing to pack when I am on the go.

In the Book of Shadows Vol. II palette there are 16 shadows; 7 of which are exclusive to the palette. I’m glad to see that out of the 16 I only have 5 shades from previous palettes. Having too many of the same shades in palettes has stopped me from buying some of the others because I already most of the shades from single eyeshadows and the palettes I already own.

Overall, the color variety in this palette is very wearable and versatile. There are many colors that you can mix and match for a multitude of different looks to take you from day to night.  My favorite shadows from this palette are Perversion, AC/DC, Mushroom, and Misdemeanor. I also love the way Sphynx looks in the pan, but I am skeptical how it will look on my skin tone.

There is a mini Urban Decay publication that I get a kick out of included in the palette, such a cute idea. It’s like having a mini Urban Decay inspiration look book, and when you find yourself clueless about how you want to look that day you can always refer to the booklet. The model who featured throughout the booklet is Daniela Freitas and she is absolutely gorgeous. I like that Urban Decay used her as their model for the booklet be because I noticed that she has smaller eyelids from her lash line to eyebrow just like me and it’s nice to see I’m not the only one.

I am totally diggin’ this palette- two thumbs way up!
